Manaslu trekking is geographically spectacular and culturally fascinating.
The Tibetans of the upper Budi Gandaki, a region known as Nupri, are direct descendants of Tibetan immigrants. Their speech, dress and customs are almost exclusively Tibetan and there is still continuous trade between Nupri and Tibet. The mountain views in Nupri are sensational and the snow covered Larkya pass (5,160m / 16,924ft) is a dramatic Himalayan pass to cross.
You will trek through beautiful villages including Samagaon and Samdo. You will experience the beautiful Gandaki region and the Marsyangdi valley, visit the ancient monastery in Samagaon, Larkya La bazaar, and explore around the aqua-blue green Lake Birendra.
Optional: Thulo Larkya Peak (6,249m / 20,496ft) or Sano Larkya Peak (5,807 / 19,046ft) are spectacular peaks to climb in combination with the Manaslu Trek. It is a strenuous climb (it is not a trekking peak), where you'll have to put a high camp (5600m) for the Thulo Larkya Peak, with fabulous views of Manaslu (8th highest mountain in the world), the Annapurna mountain range, Ganesh Himal and beyond.
Note: Sometimes there is confusion about the true summit of Larkya peak. Sano (small) Larkya peak (5,807m / 19,046ft) is the subsidiary peak. Sano (small) Larkya peak can be climbed in a long day from the base camp. To climb the Thulo (big) Larkya peak (6,249m / 20,496ft), a high camp is needed after the base camp.
